  • NTS®-MPC: Cryogenic Emergency Disconnect Safety System for Onshore and Offshore

The NTS®-MPC is an extremely robust and reliable Safety Breakaway Coupling for offshore and onshore transportation of low-temperature media such as LNG and LOX. In hazardous situations, it separates safely and non-destructively. After separation, it allows for quick and easy reassembly.

The cryogenic Safety Breakaway Coupling MPC is recommended for liquid and gaseous media at temperatures down to -230°C (-382°F).

How does the ARTA NTS®-MPC work?

Hazardous situations during refueling operations often arise due to unintentional tensile forces acting on the line. This can occur for various reasons, such as severe weather conditions and rough seas. Therefore, it is recommended to equip the line with an ARTA Safety Breakaway Coupling specifically designed for marine applications.

If an unintentional tensile force acts on the line where the NTS®-MPC is installed, the two coupling halves separate in a controlled manner and their valves immediately close on both sides. This prevents the release of potentially hazardous media and ensures the safety of the user.

What advantages does the ARTA NTS®-MPC offer?

      Application at extremely low temperatures

The NTS®-MPC enables the loading and transfer of liquids and gases at temperatures down to -230°C (-382°F), making it ideally suited for cryogenic applications.

      Environmental protection through non-destructive separation

The design of the NTS®-MPC ensures direct and safe separation. No coupling components are destroyed, ensuring a long service life. Furthermore, the separation mechanism allows the transported medium to remain securely contained in both coupling halves without spillage. This protects the environment and eliminates additional material costs.

Quick and easy reassembly on site

Since separation is non-destructive, the Safety Breakaway Coupling can be reassembled quickly and easily, minimizing downtime. No spare parts or special tools are required for reassembly. A simple device is used to pull the two separated coupling halves back together.

      Maximum flow rate

The flow-optimized design of the NTS®-MPC was developed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and validated through flow testing. This minimizes pressure loss and enables the breakaway coupling to achieve maximum flow capacity.

      Patented high-performance trigger mechanism

The optimized trigger mechanism ensures safe separation even under adverse conditions.

Fully verified by international certification bodies

The NTS®-MPC is a globally recognized safety coupling that has been certified by internationally recognized certification bodies. It is therefore suitable for use in a wide range of safety-critical applications.

For which areas of application was the NTS®-MPC developed?

The NTS®-MPC was specifically developed for transporting media at extremely low temperatures, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquid oxygen (LOX), ethylene, propylene and ethane. It can be used in suction and discharge lines for liquid and gaseous substances, making it particularly suitable for tanker vessels as well as onshore and offshore loading stations.
