  • NTS®-PI: Safety Breakaway Coupling triggered by axial tension

The NTS®-PI is a Safety Breakaway Coupling that is triggered when an unintentional axial tensile load is applied. It stands out due to its uncomplicated installation, non-destructive and safe separation, and quick and easy reassembly. In addition, its trigger mechanism operates independently of the system pressure.

How does the ARTA NTS®-PI work?

Hazardous situations during refueling operations often arise due to unintentional tensile forces acting on the line. This can occur for various reasons, such as the sudden departure of a tanker connected to the coupling. Therefore, it is recommended to equip the line with an NTS Safety Breakaway Coupling from ARTA.

If an unintentional tensile force acts on the line where the NTS®-PI is installed, the two coupling halves separate in a controlled manner and their valves immediately close on both sides. This prevents the release of potentially hazardous media and ensures the safety of the user.

What advantages does the ARTA NTS®-PI offer?

      Non-destructive separation

The design of the NTS®-PI ensures direct and safe separation. No coupling components are destroyed, ensuring a long service life. Furthermore, the separation mechanism allows the transported medium to remain securely contained in both coupling halves without spillage. This protects the environment and eliminates additional material costs.

Quick and easy reassembly on site

Since separation is non-destructive, the Safety Breakaway Coupling can be reassembled quickly and easily, minimizing downtime. No spare parts or special tools are required for reassembly. A simple device is used to pull the two separated coupling halves back together.

      Maximum flow rate

The flow-optimized design of the NTS®-PI was developed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and validated through flow testing. This minimizes pressure loss and enables the breakaway coupling to achieve maximum flow capacity.

      Patented high-performance trigger mechanism

The optimized release mechanism prevents the transmission of tensile forces between the vehicle, the NTS and the system. This ensures safe separation even under adverse conditions. The high-performance triggering mechanism of the NTS®-PI is designed to remain unaffected by line pressure.

      Protective swivel mechanism

The integrated swivel mechanism of the NTS®-PI protects the hose line and the loading arm.

Fully verified by international certification bodies

The NTS®-PI is a globally recognized safety coupling that has been certified by internationally recognized certification bodies. It is therefore suitable for use in a wide range of safety-critical applications.

For which areas of application was the NTS®-PI developed?

ARTA Safety Breakaway Couplings are used in suction and discharge lines for liquid, gaseous and solid substances. They can be installed in both hose lines and pipe loading systems. They are particularly suitable for tanker trucks, tanker ships, loading stations and hose towers.

Ideally, they should be combined with an ASK Dry Break Coupling or Quick Disconnect Coupling from ARTA.
