  • NTS®-PU-M: Emergency Disconnect Safety System for Marine Applications

The NTS®-PU-M is a Marine Breakaway Coupling, also known as a Marine Breakaway Coupler or Emergency Release Coupler. Specifically developed for harsh marine conditions, its robustness and high resistance to saltwater corrosion make it the ideal breakaway coupling for offshore applications. The NTS®-PU-M ensures safe, non-destructive separation in hazardous situations and allows for quick and easy reassembly.

How does the ARTA NTS®-PU-M work?

Hazardous situations during refueling operations often arise due to unintentional tensile forces acting on the line. This can occur for various reasons, such as severe weather conditions and rough seas. Therefore, it is recommended to equip the line with an ARTA Safety Breakaway Coupling specifically designed for marine applications.

If an unintentional tensile force acts on the line where the NTS®-PU-M is installed, the two coupling halves separate in a controlled manner and their valves immediately close on both sides. This prevents the release of potentially hazardous media and ensures the safety of the user.

What advantages does the ARTA NTS®-PU-M offer?

      Environmental protection through non-destructive separation

The design of the NTS®-PU-M ensures direct and safe separation. No coupling components are destroyed, ensuring a long service life. Furthermore, the separation mechanism allows the transported medium to remain securely contained in both coupling halves without spillage. This protects the environment and eliminates additional material costs.

Quick and easy reassembly on site

Since separation is non-destructive, the Safety Breakaway Coupling can be reassembled quickly and easily, minimizing downtime. No spare parts or special tools are required for reassembly. The two separated coupling halves are reconnected using the screws supplied with the coupling.

      Maximum flow rate

The flow-optimized design of the NTS®-PU-M was developed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and validated through flow testing. This minimizes pressure loss and enables the breakaway coupling to achieve maximum flow capacity.

Patented trigger mechanism with flexible 90° activation range

The optimized release mechanism prevents the transmission of tensile forces between the vessel, the NTS and the system. This ensures safe separation even under adverse conditions. The flexible 90° activation range allows separation within the specified activation angle, depending on the direction from which tensile force is applied to the system.

Fully verified by international certification bodies

The NTS®-PU-M is a globally recognized safety coupling that has been certified by internationally recognized certification bodies. It is therefore suitable for use in a wide range of safety-critical applications.

For which areas of application was the NTS®-PU-M developed?

The NTS®-PU-M is used in suction and discharge lines for liquid, gaseous and solid substances. It can be installed in both hose lines and pipe loading systems. Its high load capacity and available sizes make it an ideal Safety Breakaway Coupling for marine applications, including shore-to-ship, ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship loading operations.
